Argentina: K-pop Argentina’s Hallyu Kermesse

A special event was held to introduce Korean culture to the Hallyu fans in Argentina. The 800 Hallyu fans who came to attend the event first donated food to Bancos Alimentos, a local anti-poverty organization. The program included “Hangeul Game” for writing names in Korean with puzzle pieces, “K-pop Match” in which the participants tried to match up the K-pop artists’ photos with relevant song titles, “Hansik promotional video” that introduced the recipes for kimchi and galbi, and K-pop music videos. Coreo Team staged a K-pop performance, which was followed by a dance contest for 12 teams consisting of Hallyu fans. The event closed with performances by a local troupe of Korean artists and samulnori artists.

Hungary: Cloud Hungary’s Rain-Day: Incredible RAIN

Cloud Hungary, a fan club for K-pop star Rain, organized an event to celebrate Rain’s completion of his military service. The members looked at the flourishing Hallyu phenomenon and Rain’s musical styles and past activities. They also gave an in-depth lecture on the modern history of Korea and the relationship between cultural life and economic growth. This was followed by a locally-produced short film on Korea and a video clip on Rain. The community members revealed part of their self-produced e-Book on Rain and wrapped up the event with K-pop Dance Night.

Some 60 students got a chance to learn Korean during summer vacation in beginner’s class and intermediary class. Aside from regular lessons, the classes held a writing contest on what Korea means to them and also offered TOPIK lessons to a selected number of students. At the end-of-the-class party, the students had a chance to make Korean friends and improve on their conversational skills and also experience Korean culture, such as hansik and K-pop.

Turkey: Korea Fan’s Fashion & K-pop Day

The members of Korea Fan community launched a fashion project on the theme “traditional and modern Korea.” The members modeled their self-designed costumes on the runway and also gave a presentation on their designs afterwards. The K-pop party held after the fashion show was organized by a DJ team, a K-pop dance team, and a music team, who staged various K-pop performances. Another popular program was an exhibit and sales of items on Hallyu stars.

Kazakhstan: KPG (Kazakhstan K-pop Generation)’s Third K-pop Spring Festival

The K-pop Spring Festival, now in its third year, is one of the largest K-pop festivals in Kazakhstan. In 2013, a total of 97 teams participated in the festival with 21 teams moving up to the final stage after a preliminary round. All the teams put on a performance of high standards. Almost 1000 Hallyu fans crowded to the venue on the festival day, and the “Yonhap News” and local press (“Goryeo Ilbo”) covered the event and the Hallyu boom in the country.
