Australian Community: KCC’s Korean Music Night

KCC hosted their first Korean Music Night in Utopia. The club sold tickets with free drinks on the side, and the participants put on an upbeat stage of K-pop hit songs, duets, and dance performances. There were also various games that tested people’s knowledge of K-pop and Korean culture.

KCC attended the Spring Feast program of UWA Multicultural Week and promoted Korean street food. The club set up a topokki booth, which was so popular that they ran out of supply. In Part 2 of the event, KCC put on a K-pop show that included Psy’s “Gangnam Style.”

German Community: So Loved’s Korea-Germany Food Festival

Fans of Korean cuisine and culture gathered together at Korean restaurant Kochu Karu, meaning chili pepper powder, and learned how to cook Korean food. The owner of the restaurant, Bini Lee, gave a brief lecture on Korean food and cooking methods, and taught the participants how to make rice, bibimbap, soup and salad.

Turkish Community: Korea Fans’ Korean Dance Day

The event started with an introduction to Korean tourism with the Korean consul and Korea Tourism Organization staff members in attendance. The event was centered on K-pop song and dance competition. The contestants and attendants were all excited by the skills of the dancers and the upbeat music. There was an awards ceremony at the end, and about 80 contestants received certificates for participating.

Australian Community: UNSW K-Pop Society’s Korean Culture Fun Day and Chuseok Celebration

UNSW K-Pop Society hosted an outdoor event to celebrate Chuseok in Australia. The members cooked beef rib soup, bulgogi, and kimchi fried rice and shared the side dishes, rice cake, and drinks that they brought. They kept the party lively by playing K-pop songs all throughout the event.
