2014 Project of Inviting Foreign University Newspaper Reporters

  • College newspaper reporters from 12 universities in Beijing and 5 universities in Shanghai, China, visited Korea for 9 days and experienced the traditional and modern cultures of Korea.


    ■ Korean traditional culture

    The reporters were awed by the harmony of traditional and modern cultures that they witnessed as they listened to the foreign language guide service at the Gyeongbokgung Palace in the middle of Seoul where skyscrapers make up the cityscape. They tried on various forms of hanbok at Bukchon, made traditional cookies and experienced traditional tea ceremony. They looked around the ancient houses and traditional communities in Andong Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.


    ■ Korean modern culture

    The reporters learned the major K-pop dances representing Hallyu and enjoyed the view of Seoul from N Tower. They also visited the Lotte World amusement park and watched the non-verbal, b-boy musical "Bebop."


    ■ Incheon homestay

    The reporters experienced homestay in Incheon for one night and went grocery shopping, cooked meals, visited tourist attractions with their homestay families. The activity helped them to get a deeper understanding of the everyday life and culture of Koreans.


    ■ Group activities

    The reporters investigated the three themes of "universities," "traditional markets," and "latest trends" in groups and reported on Korean culture.
